Sleeping in the closet

Lace was a quiet boy, he never said much in class and only spoke when spoken too. Even then he didn't say much. This was never a bother to him. A lack of friends was of no concern to Lace, his strange beauty and mysterious nature drew plenty of attention from other students. Which could be bothersome, but he found ways to avoid it. He went into the Gym storage room to eat lunch, one day however, he fell asleep. He fell into such a deep sleep that he slept through class and until the end of volley ball practice. He managed to hide from the sight of the club members, though not on purpose until someone came in and saw him.

It was Lev who was supposed to clean up after practice because he couldn't spike at all today. He even got Kenma to toss for him and yet he couldn't make the ball go on the other side of the net. Mumbling to himself, he took a few balls and headed out to the storage room.

When he turned the light on, he noticed a boy sleeping on the floor. Well, he wasn't sure if the boy was just sleeping, so...

"MURDER!! A DEAD BODY!!! THERE'S A MURDERER IN OUR SCHOOL!!!" He yelled, but he knew that everyone was gone already. What if the murderer was still lurking around gym, though? "I DON'T WANT TO DIE YEEEEEEEEEEEEET!"

"......?!"Lace was jolted awake by yelling, quickly shooting up to give the towering boy a bewildered look. Who was he? Why was he yelling? What was going on? Lace didn't even know what to say as he stood up standing at his full five foot three height.

He looked around and noticed that it was nearing dusk, "Ah....I missed...afternoon...classes...."

"HE'S A ZOMBIEEEEEEEEE!! RUN FOR YOUR LIVES!!" He continued but instead of listening to his own advice (no one else than them were around anyway), he stood here and gawked at Lace. "Don't eat my brain, don't eat my brain!!"

Lace frowned at him, "I'm not...a zombie..." He replied moving to pick up his half eaten bento box and his bag as he yawned. He was a second year student yet his still fell asleep in strange places.

"Big sis....is going to scold me..." He sighed softly as he closed his bento box and stored it in his bag.

"Eh? So who are you...?" Lev blinked, watching the boy put the bento box in the bag. "What are you doing here? You shouldn't be here...!"

He was so confused.

"Lace..." He replied before holding up two fingers, "Second year..." He murmured as he put his bag over his shoulder. Why was this boy asking him so many questions? It wasn't against the rules to go in here during lunch hours.

"I...come here during lunch break...."

"And you've been sleeping here? Wow...didn't our practice wake you up even once?" Lev was truly impressed, they really were quite loud out there. "Umm, wait! Are you sure you're okay? You look pale and tired..."

Lace nodded his head, it's not that surprising. He blinked lazily at him when he asked if he was alright. "Just....tired..." He shrugged as he moved to leave.

He paused for a moment and gazed back at him, "Who...are you...?"

"I am the wind. I am as swift as the wind...I am the forest. I am as quiet as the forest...And...I'm flexible...as a cat!" Lev grinned at him and added after a while, "Lev Haiba, the ace of Nekoma volleyball team!"

"Lev...Haiba....?" Lace never heard of him, was he a first year? He looked more like a third year from his height but his childishness was a dead give away that he had to be a first year. He kind of reminded Lace of a friend back in London.

"I...transferred...here a few weeks ago...." He murmured softly as he stretched a little, feeling stiff from sleeping hunched for so long.

"You don't know me? I'm the ACE!!" Lev pouted and started to gather the balls that he dropped when he discovered Lace sleeping on the floor. "You transferred from abroad, right? Nice to meet you!"

Lace decided to assist Lev in gathering all the balls he had dropped. "...Yes..... London...." He replied, his Japanese wasn't that good with his accent and soft voice. But he was the one chosen to go to Japan however so he had his trusty Japanese dictionary and manners book to refer too should he have trouble.

He wasn't nearly as reliant on it as he was when he first got to Japan though but it was helpful.

"London? Great!" Lev looked really amazed as he put the balls in place. "Do you need help with anything? I'm a first year, but I know a lot about this school!" Not really, but well. He wanted to sound like an reliable first year.

Lace seemed a little surprised by Lev's excited reaction. He never met anyone who seemed so genuinely amazed by his country of origin. The girls just tried to act amaze and ask him needless questions.

He put the balls away before gazing up at him, "Do....you live near by...?" He asked quietly as he gazed up at him with golden eyes.

"Actually...yeah! Just a fifteen minute walk from here! How cool is that? I don't even have to use the subway!" Lev replied, grinning at the other boy. "If you need something just ask away, the ace knows everything!"

"Ah...I...do too..." Strange that they had never run into each other until now. What a strange first year though, he seemed so sure of himself just because he was an ace.

".....Want...to walk back...?" It would be nice to have someone help him find his way rather than Lace wandering aimlessly for a while.

"Ohhh, it's the first time someone wants to walk home with me...! I mean...my teammates ask me all the time...!" He was contradicting himself a bit, but it didn't really bother Lev. "Want me to show you around?"

Lace paused a moment before pulling out his translation book to see what Lev said before nodding his head. That would be nice. He would have a better chance of learning his surroundings instead of going home and doing nothing. He did a formal bow and said thank you like what the book had said and then quietly waited for Lev to guide him.

"No need to be so stiff around me!" Lev patted his back vigorously and laughed. "My english is kinda bad but I'll do my best to understand you! Just give me a hand, will you? I need to clean up after practice and then we can go!"

With Lace it didn't took as long as it usually did and they were walking out from the school thirty minutes later.

"So...how do you like it here?"

Lace thought about it for a moment before nodding his head, "Students... keep staring at me though...." Which was strange since back in London no one even gave him a passing glance.

Lace thought he was doing a pretty good job at blending in.

Lev was oblivious what was wrong with Lace. He looked pretty normal to him, after all.

"I'm not sure what's their problem, but just tell them that Nekoma's ace is your best friend and they won't bother you anymore."

They'd probably think of Taketora instead of him, though.

Perhaps to each other they looked normal but in Japan foreign student transfers were very rare and people with natural golden hair and golden eyes were very uncommon. Same with Lev's height.

"Best....friend....?" Lace asked looking very confused by Lev's declaration.

"Yep. Something's wrong?" Lev didn't get it. Well, they weren't best friends or even friends yet, but Lev couldn't see why they wouldn't become closer. "Or even, for a better effect you can tell them you're my best bro!!"

That was a first. Lace didn't know friends could be made so easily. "You...want me to tell them that... I'm your....brother...?" He asked, looking confused at him. Did they even look alike?

"Not my brother, my bro! It's like best friend but even more!" Lev tried to explain it as best as he could as they walked down the street. "Do you want to hang out today?"
