Sleeping in the closet

Lace was a quiet boy, he never said much in class and only spoke when spoken too. Even then he didn't say much. This was never a bother to him. A lack of friends was of no concern to Lace, his strange beauty and mysterious nature drew plenty of attention from other students. Which could be bothersome, but he found ways to avoid it. He went into the Gym storage room to eat lunch, one day however, he fell asleep. He fell into such a deep sleep that he slept through class and until the end of volley ball practice. He managed to hide from the sight of the club members, though not on purpose until someone came in and saw him.

"Mhm..." Lace could cook, he had to, he was alone after all. Though sometimes he forgot to eat though. "I...sleep... and read...." And fall asleep reading.

"How come you sleep so much and yet you look tired all the time?" Lev asked, even though "all the time" actually meant these two hours they spent together in total.

"....It's...just...the way I...am..." He shrugged, maybe because he stayed late at night waiting for Robin or Ruskin to call him. His loft was a little messy but that was it, there was a TV and computer but it was a simple place. Not many things were owned.

"Just don't sleep during volleyball matches!" Lev scolded him and sat on the couch after dropping his bag on the floor. "We can watch TV together and eat, what do you think?"

"....I never went to volleyball matches...." Lace replied, he never went to school games. He nodded his head quietly when Lev said what they were going to do, Lace was pretty passive. He went to start cooking some food and start making some tea for them.

"You...can turn it on to....whatever...."

"Now you have to. Because we're neighbors and all..." Lev shrugged and grabbed the remote to turn the TV on. "HEY, HEY, HEY!" He yelled all of a sudden without a reason. "Your name is Lace...the first letter of my name is L...and I'm the ace...you know where I'm getting at?!"

Lace jolted when Lev yelled at him, almost chopping off his finger but instead, thanks to his reflexes only ended up cutting himself. ".....?" What was he talking about? Lace wasn't understanding anything he was saying as he went to get a rag to stop his bleeding finger.

"It simply means that--IS THIS BLOOD? OH MY GOD, I'M SO SORRY!" Lev noticed that Lace was rather slow when it came to moving around, so he just grabbed him and went to the bathroom with him. "I'm so sorry!" He repeated, pouting.

Lace looked surprised as Lev quickly pulled him to the bathroom to care for his cut. "What....does it mean...?" Lace asked, clearly paying no mind to the injury. What Lev was trying to say sounded much more interesting than the cut on his finger.

Was it because Lev wanted to build up the supsense or because he was really worried that Lace hurt himself--there was no way to tell, but he didn't answer his question right away. When he was about to, though, he leaned in and whispered to his ear, "We were destined to meet."

Lace tensed and moved back from him when Lev whispered in his ear. He looked very surprised by Lev's conclusion. How can he even say that? "How...can you...say that...?" He asked, gazing up at him with a wary look.

"What do you mean how?" Lev tilted his head to the side and started looking for a band-aid shortly after. "Isn't it true, though? Lace and Ace...I sense the beginning of a great friendship...! Oh, here it is!" He put the band-aid on Lace's cut a grinned.

How did having his name mean that they were ideal? "I don't think....that's right.... My name....doesn't make me ideal for you... It's...personality and compatibility that makes.....someone ideal...." He replied quietly as Lev bandaged his finger.

"I think we're compatibile, though...?" Lev seemed to be surprised by Lace's words. Well, they had just met two hours ago, but he liked Lace already. "Don't tell me that you don't like me..."

"...I do..." Lace did like him, he reminded him of someone very dear to him. He was just as loud and high energy just like Lev, unfortunately, he didn't think long distance would work out so they had to break up. They remained friends though which was painful...but pleasant.

"Thought so!" Lev laughed, satisfied with Lace's answer. "Your cut should be alright now! I'm so sorry that I've surprised you...but it really is cool, isn't it? Lace and Ace! Maybe I should make it my nickname? But it would be difficult to tell us apart!"

It wouldn't.

"You're...much bigger than I am..." He murmured softly, Lev looked nothing like him. They wouldn't be mistaken for anything like that. He moved to stand up to resume cooking and get their tea from the stove.

"I might be, but...!" Surprisingly not, he ran out of the arguments. "Alright, but using your name as my nickname feels weird...I have to think of something else, I guess." Lev followed him to check what he was cooking. "What will it be?"

"Why...do you need one...?" He asked softly, looking at him with a curious look. "Your....name is pleasant...." Why would he want to change it? Lace liked it and saw no reason for it to change.

"Is it? I mean...I like it too, but some people have trouble spelling it..." Lev tapped his chin a few times and added, "Well...maybe that's not bad thing. As long as they keep calling me the ace...I'll be fine!"

Lace poured them tea and put the roast in the oven before joining him in front of the TV and watching whatever program Lev wanted to watch, he enjoyed this new high energy friend. "It'll....be done in an hour...."

Obviously, Lev was watching a volleyball match and was really eager about everything that was happening on the court. "We can watch together till then! If you have any questions about volleyball I'll gladly answer them!"

Lace quietly watched the game, watching them play curiously. He could probably do that. He was good at sports back in England but that was only because he had someone dragging him along through it all. "Why...do you like volleyball...?"

"Why...? Because it's great!" It was the first answer that came to Lev's mind. Actually, he didn't elaborate, just went back to watching.

That wasn't very elaborate. But Lace wasn't very elaborate either. He just watched in silence, noting what they were doing and who he found attractive. Lace quietly flipped himself over the couch and landed on his feet with ease before he went into the kitchen to take the roast out.
